Kołobrzeg, eastern promenade
The house
A bathing hotel of 1906 on the promenade east of the pier, with 31 rooms, a winter garden and a pool of warm brine.
From bathing hotel to base camp
Kołobrzeg became a spa in the 1830s, when doctors began sending patients to bathe in the brine that rises under the town. Our house was one of dozens of bathing hotels built along the shore before the First World War. It survived 1945 with its roof gone and was rebuilt as a holiday home for railway workers.
In 1958 the ground floor at the back became an amber workshop, where craftsmen cut and polished stones washed up on the beach. It ran until the 1990s. We bought the building in 2010, repaired it over two winters and opened in 2011.
What is in the building
On the ground floor: the hall and desk, the winter garden facing the sea, the breakfast room and, at the back, the old workshop that is now the hotel's gaming room. Below: the brine pool and two treatment rooms. Above: three floors of rooms and a small roof terrace.
The people
Twenty staff in summer, eleven in winter, most of them from Kołobrzeg and Ustronie Morskie. Someone is at the desk around the clock.

A slow week in Kołobrzeg stays here every night. The R10 coast by bike starts and finishes here, and Wolin island ends with a night here.
